Budapest Symphonic

This small tour evolves around the Classical Music in Budapest. Based on this theme, we take our guests to a tour based on the classical styles, from symphonies to quartettes, but still in a unique way.

DAY 1: BUDAPEST, BACKGROUND AND SPECTACLE

Arrival is arranged on the airport with transfer to the Palace of Arts in Budapest. This building provides ample space for the enjoyment of the performing arts. It is the home of music - from classical, through jazz to world music - opera, dance, contemporary art and painting. There is always something going on among the huge spaces, towering columns and atmospheric corners of this entirely 21st century building. During the tour, the group is accompanied by a local staff member, who tells them of the location's history, aims and everyday existance. Throughout the conversation, the guests are guided into one of the concert halls, where they can observe a little while the practice of an Orchestra. There is a possibility to arrange a small talk with the musicians as well. A light lunch is also provided for the group in the Palace, followed by transfer to the hotel for check-in, and free program in the rest of the afternoon.

At night, the group returnes to the Palace of Arts for an Orchestra Concert.

Transfer is arranged back to the hotel, with dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: CLASSICAL BUDAPEST

The day is based on becoming acquainted with the great names of Hungarian Classical music. Everything starts like a typical sightseeing, although it is not, during which the group visits Heroes' Square, where visitors can see the sculptures of the more than a thousand years old Hungarian history's most significant personalities. In the green park of City Park is the Castle of Vajdahunyad, the 'Budapest-Prater', the Zoo and the Big Circus of Capital. From here turning on Andrássy Street, Budapest's most beautiful avenue we reach the city centre. The European continent's first underground railway runs under the avenue.

As a special location, the group is taken to the Memorial and Archives of Zoltán Kodály, arranged from the musician's appartment. Furniture, books, photographs and handwritings, everything is original and of great importance. After a look around, the guests are presented a well-known piece of Kodály's music.

As a continuation, the group goes to the neighbouring Ferenc Liszt Memorial Museum, which is a reconstruction of Liszt's last Budapest flat on the first floor of the old Academy of Music. The collection of the museum contains his original instruments, books and some personal objects. Here, the group will be presented with one of the most famous songs of this great author.

As the third "classical-but-not" stop in the sightseeing, the guests are invited into the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. Still functioning as a prestigious music academy, the principles and traditions of its founders are still upheld. It also serves as the center of concert life in Budapest. Here, the group will have the possibility to have a few words with students, teachers of the Academy and listening for some minutes to the music of a quartett.

Lunch would be served in the Firkász Restaurant, which is a modern restaurant, which at the same time reflects the atmosphere of the 1920's, which undoubtebly is "catching".

The sightseeing continues with the Szent István Basilica, followed by the Danube bank and the Parliament. Crossing the river Danube we reach its right bank, Buda. It's most significant sights are the Buda Castle Quarter belonging to UNESCO World Heritage, the block of the Baroque style Royal Palace and the civil living quarter with Mátyás Church. From the Fishermen's Bastion there is a breathtaking view on Pest side, just like on top of Mount-Gellért, where there is the Statue of Liberty together with the building of Citadella. Finishing here, the group has free programme for the rest of the afternoon.

At night, the group is taken to the concert of the Danube Symphonic Orchestra, which was formed in 1961, consists of 60 professional musicians, and has a great repertoire which covers almost every musical style from the Baroque music to music of the 20th century.

Following the performance, the group is taken to a dinner spiced with a great sight, the Danube by night. Jump on board and enjoy cruising on the river accompanied. You can see the historical buildings from a different dimension while enjoying a welcome drink and a wine. This is the best way to feel the splendour of Budapest.

Transfer is arranged by to the hotel for overnight.

DAY 3: BUDAPEST
After breakfast, transfer to the airport is arranged for the group. In case of late departure, we offer a 2 hour leisure activity in the Széchényi Thermal Baths, which is one of the largest bath complexes in Europe and it is the biggest public bath in the Austro-Hungarian era.

Lunch would be served in the Gerbeaud Pub, located in the historic vaulted cellars of Gerbeaud House. The rustically decorated premises create a marvellous, relaxed atmosphere, just right to end this "classical" tour.

After lunch, transfer to the airport is arranged.
