DESCRIPTION In 1973 a few young people met each other in Lajosmizse on the Great Hungarian Plain. The meeting was at Lajosmizse as a new rural museum had just opened to show the country and world aspects of peasant life - both past and present.
The aim of the restaurant's founder and that of his loyal team was quite simply, they wanted to offer a new kind of restaurant while still remaining faithful the traditions of the past. In addition to fine food and drink the guests are not entertained by an evening of folklore but are encouraged to take an active part in discovering the true and living puszta. The csárda became bigger and accommodation quarters also expanded but guests continued to come in droves so the New Tanyacsárda was built in 1992, a few kilometres away and next to the stud farm. The new site provides a centre for the range of cultural events and can accommodate up to 1000 guests at a time. Lovers of the great outdoors and horsy people will also find Hungary's first equestrian campsite here. Their aim is to provide enthralling entertainment that is both traditional and authentic. Guests may get to the restaurant on the special train which conjures up images from the turn of the century and guests may even come face to face with one of the highwaymen who used to ride and plunder travellers on the Great Plain. Visitors can also have a glass or two with one of the Hungarian herdsmen, dance with a gypsy and enjoy the melodies of the gypsy band until dawn.
