LOCATION Tihany is among the oldest known settlement at the Lake Balaton, its Abbey was built almost 1000 years ago. The village of fishermen and peasants has survived the centuries, and it is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hungary. The village is situated on a small peninsula that penetrates the lake from the north. The peninsula was likely created by volcanic activities, and most of its territory belongs to protected environmental areas, national parks. On the peninsula there are two smaller lakes on the hills. They are not connected with the Lake Balaton. These lakes are primarily reserved for the wildlife, although the larger one offers good opportunities also for the sport fishermen. The csárda is located on the north of the village, about 300 meters from the Abbey, right across the bus parking.

DESCRIPTION The construction of the building dates back to about 1800, and it is the oldest csárda in Tihany. (The Hungarian word 'csárda' means something like a highway inn, where besides the food and drink usually some kind of entertainment, namely the traditional Hungarian Gypsy Music is also provided.) Over the years terraces were added to the old building, which offer a wonderful panoramic view on the larger lake.
The csárda has been furnished with handcrafted rustic furniture, local linens and pottery. It offers a unique environment, second to none at the Lake Balaton.
